GROWING A TREE
We planted a tree. We looked after it with love. We watered it, disbudded it, we gave it sky to breathe.
One year later, we taste its sweat fruits.
ArchiTeam managed through its projects to win the trust of thousands of people, who are now friends, and to create a common place for those who do not face architecture as an operation but as a matter of life.
Our plant will go on growing. Now there are thousands those who take care of it.
You can also take part, inspire yourself, and enjoy life underneath its comforting shadow.
Architecture Revolution => ArchiLution
In the 21st century the world is developing at a rapid nearly superhuman pace.
Aldous Huxley at ‘Brave New World’ suggests “that the price of universal happiness will be the sacrifice of the most hallowed shibboleths of our culture: "motherhood", "home", "family", "freedom", even "love". The exchange yields an insipid happiness that's unworthy of the name. Its evocation arouses our unease and distaste.”
The global financial crisis reminded the humankind that the period of unstoppable consumption and exploitation of natural resources has come to an end. Mankind should adapt to the new situation and invent (or revert to) new values and a new way of living by defying consumption (homo-confectoris).
Architecture has to rediscover these values and lead the global government to this new model of values and sustainable living. Through ArchiLution the essential conditions and the new constants that will lead the global community to a peaceful coexistence with the traumatized nature and to the cultural elevation of the 21st century will be created.
Architecture is life.

“Architecture is defined by three elements: space, structure, and scale.
Architecture for me is a form of expressing identity of oneself in various forms of spaces in Human Scale, in Design, Form in an Aesthetic form which differentiates an Architect from other people since an Architect alone can Visualize & provide Balance in the Form & Space with respect to the Scale.
Architecture is the science for spatial ordering the space with a defined scale in order to achieve convenience and aesthetics. Space, that is to say nothing, by nature falls within its domain. But without that "nothing," the architecture would be nothing. Without scale, we wouldn't still have the Parthenon. Without scale, architecture in the end is nothing but rubble. It should go without saying that its beauty lies in its design, that is to say, its structure and materials.
Architecture is about the Human Scale manifested in the Built Environment & its natural surroundings, materials, technology, Sociology & its impact on the micro & macro scale. Architecture has its roots in Housing from times immemorial to satisfy one of the basic requirements of Human needs.”

Georgios Vlachodimos was born in Thessaloniki, and graduated from the Department of Architecture of The Aristotele University in Thessaloniki (AUTH), in 2005.
“Architecture is basically magic. You can never predict how far an architect can go, how insane ideas he can come up with, or what he has in mind and heart while designing a building. But, let's face it, architecture doesn't only have to do with material and the buildings themselves; architecture is hidden everywhere.
It's the basement of our amazingly coherent nature, something that 'the golden section' proves. Architecture is the sibling of art, as it reveals the inner world of human and can bear different feelings to each and every person dealing with it. The amplitude of architecture creates several human needs and it also exists to serve our often emotional changes. Sounds quite complex, but in the end, everyone faces architecture.
It defines a way of life, a way of living and a way of dreaming. There are no limits, like what's happening in universe and human fantasy. If you take the risk to let architecture guide you to unknown paths, you surely won't regret it.
But in order to make it real, you have to go deeper in every kind of science starting from mechanical issues until anthropology and psychology.
You have to get as much knowledge as your brain can handle and also experience, because you have a world out there waiting for you to bring out the optimism; they expect you to open new visions to their lives and make the future a better place for living. Too much responsibility?
I say yes, that's finally the way it is. That's why something so incomprehensible and endless can be so magical.
You have to take the risk and free your spirit.
”

Matina Koloniari was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in May 1992 and she studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“I can't easily tell what architecture means to me.
What I can tell is that when I was expected to choose an occupation, I chose the one that seemed less as a profession. Since then and for the last two years - that I've been studying architecture- my life revolves around it.
It is surprising how architecture underlies in everything, from a walk to the city to a literary book...
Architecture is a labor and a pleasant break; it's all about life itself.”

Sofia Tzereme was born in Athens, Greece, in April 1991 and she studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“Since I was 13 years old, I wanted to be an architect but I didn’t know what really architecture means. I thought that it is social art and helps people live in a more beautiful place. That was enough for me to fall in love with it. After a year in the school of Architecture I understood that this isn‘t just an art. It is also a science of designing and constructing buildings, a process of organizing spaces for being suitable for the people and their needs. Architecture helps the structure fit perfectly with the environment, promotes health and well living. It provides solutions and contributes to social, economic and environmental progress. Architecture has so many meanings and I don’t think that I know what exactly it is. However I believe that it can’t be only a business or a calling. Architecture for me is a passion… It is delight, creation and also contribution. ”

Chrapana Marianna was born in Katerini, Greece, in December 1991 and she studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH)
“It is hard to define what architecture means and I hardly believe that anyone could give a good explanation. However, let me try to give my own explanation and to confide in what I feel about architecture and what implies it. Architecture means everything and exists in every second of my life and I think in everyone’s life. Architecture is an alternative sight of the world and also an interesting one. Architecture it is not only science, construction, materials and beauty, it is also function, accommodation, a way to make needs and dreams come true and mostly try, decisions, ideas, feelings, pleasure and expression what is on my mind. Maybe sometimes it fells exhausting, but always architecture will be a passion for me and an encouragement to work more and penetrate into the art of architecture.
Studying architecture has totally changed my view, my opinion and thinking of the buildings. After a year in the school I can see things that I could not recognize before, every day I learn something new and I am always surprised. It has formed my personality, now I can realize the importance of sketching, designing, living architecture by partnership, discussion, friendship, Architraveling and being a member on an Architeam.”

Petsiou Christina was born in Larissa, Greece, in December 1991 and she studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“I'm not yet quite sure what architecture means to me. It's a mystery which calls for me day by day to discover. Every time that I learn something new about it, it dares me to unravel it even more.
It's something magical to me, something that cannot be controlled that easily, something that creates and is being created at the same time. By observing a building in a city you can tell so much about its culture, its society, its citizens. Architecture is first and foremost art, even if though there's a tendency to become entirely science.
An architect acts as any other artist: he visualizes and he creates. It's just that he has more boundaries than other artists.
Architecture is humanist, it serves the man and can be adjusted to meet his needs. It expresses opinion and policy, customs and traditions.
Architecture is above all a combination of knowledge and artistic creation.
That is my Architecture.”

Gavogianni Kiriaki was born in Rhodes / Greece, in June 1991. She studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“Architecture is Science.
It provides a sense of place and support of all kinds of human activity. It is the knowledge of natural forms, volumes and geometries.
The Architect needs to have always in mind functionality, to know anytime what's going on both inside and outside the encapsulated space.
Architecture is also Art.
It reflects the sentiments of man. What anyone feels can be translated into a drawing or design.
The Architect can provoke feelings to the public which they've never known before.
In proof that Architecture is both Art and Science one may say that Architects are primarily driven by the creative manipulation of mass, space, volume, texture, light, shadow, materials, program and pragmatic elements such as construction and technology, in order to achieve a result which is aesthetic as well as functional at the same time. Architecture is not something coherent as many might think. After all it's been around long before science or art.
Architecture is, simply, LIFE...”

Christianna Tsigkou was born in Aspropyrgos / Greece, in June 1991. She studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“Architecture is linked to construction, structure, form and shape, composition. It has to do with the design of buildings as well as the configuration of space and the surroundings. However, architecture does not just aim to an aesthetic result... True beauty is revealed when it serves the man.
Architecture has the ability to reflect our own civilization, adapt to the environment, and become one with nature.
It doesn't create itself, but it is born through the needs of others.
Far from grandiose plans, even through the simplest thing, it succeeds the greatest changes.
So, Architecture not only changes our life but also brings beauty to it...
It is not its purpose to assert itself over man or to impress, but to inspire and accompany mankind. The truth is that maybe I'm not in the position to know much about what is architecture, but I'm quite sure that it is a lot more than just a science.
”

Giagkou Virginia was born in Evia / Greece, in November 1991. She studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“When I entered the school of Architecture and all the years before that when I was dreaming of this moment, I didn't know anything about it, the only thing I knew and believed was that : "Architecture is a science/art that teaches you how something very beautiful can be functional at the same time..."
Some years later, I feel that no one ever warned me neither could I imagine how many meanings nor feelings are hidden behind what I used to think.
We, architects, don't just create a space – we educate and offer the essence of space. We work for the pleasure we take in the inspiration and creation, but we're something more than artists because we give to the people not just the space where they're going to inhabit, but we make them love it, we give them a common destination...
It is that twofold nature of the architect which I fell for...the fact that he can create a functional structure that at the same time captivates the eye of the public is what establishes him among the other engineers and classifies him as an important artist.
In any case, Architecture to me means personal creation and offer: creation which obtains aesthetic urban surroundings, and offer which guarantees a functional living space.
It is a creative and restless spirit which develops according to the needs of every man and the conditions in which he lives and is ever-changing.
It is life itself. ”

Maria Anagnostou was born in Evia, Greece. She studies Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH).
“Architecture is a mixture of science and art which can turn user's everyday into a safer, easier and qualitative prosaic. It is the effort to materialize your ideas, the sense of complacence when the result is what you were dreaming of.
Architecture is the responsibility of taking the right decision; it's a passion which makes you addicted. But the truth is that nobody could imagine a world without buildings...
And that's why architecture, above all, is a reality we can't ignore.”

Sandra Kalliagra was born in Trikala in December 1984. She studied Architecture in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH) and she graduated in 2007.
“Architecture is both the art and the science of designing and constructing buildings, this is the definition.
Personally, through architecture I have discovered means that have given me the ability to create, a finite each time sequence of images that derive from a world that is mythically molded in my imagination.
To be able to create thus even the smallest bit of the world that I would like to live in.
Architecture for me is a "place" where I can deposit my imagination, by creating perception angles that are part of a community while simultaneously they bear the ability of transforming it ... in anything I could think of.”

Psarrou Kleopatra was born in Athens, in October 1983. She studied Architecture in the Department of Architecture in the Polytechnic Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH) and graduated in 2007.
“The global financial crisis reminded the humankind that the period of unstoppable consumption and exploitation of natural resources has come to an end. Mankind should adapt to the new situation and invent (or revert to) new values and a new way of living by defying consumption (homo-confectoris).
